Our Philosophy
At
Starlight Early Learning Centre - West Wollongong, we are guided by the principles of the Early Years
Learning Framework (EYLF), which emphasises the importance of holistic
development, intentional teaching, and fostering a love for learning. We
believe that children are capable and competent learners who thrive in
environments where they feel safe, respected, and valued.
Learning
Through Play
We
recognise the importance of learning through play as a foundational aspect of
early childhood education. Play is a natural and meaningful way for children to
explore, experiment, and make sense of the world around them. Through both
structured and unstructured play, children develop key social, emotional,
cognitive, and physical skills. Our educators create play-based experiences that
are fun, engaging, and purposeful, allowing children to follow their interests
and curiosity while promoting critical thinking and problem-solving.
Intentional
Teaching
Our
approach to teaching is intentional and reflective. We design learning experiences
that are responsive to the individual needs, strengths, and interests of each
child, while also supporting their development across all learning outcomes of
the EYLF. Our educators use intentional teaching strategies such as open-ended
questions, thoughtful guidance, and collaborative activities to extend
children's learning and foster deeper understanding. We also value the role of
spontaneous learning moments and balance structured educational opportunities
with the freedom for children to explore at their own pace.
Relationships
and Community
We
believe that strong, respectful relationships form the foundation of effective
learning. Our educators work in partnership with families and the wider
community to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. We value
the diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences that each child and family
bring to our centre and actively promote a sense of belonging for all.
In
line with the EYLF principles of being, belonging, and becoming, we strive to
nurture confident, resilient, and curious learners who are ready to take on the
challenges and opportunities of the world. Our philosophy reflects our
commitment to providing high-quality care and education that promotes lifelong
learning and well-being.
